Julie's California Blog - Day 18

Julie's California Blog - Day 18, Wednesday April 17, 2013

Today was still breezy and a little bit chilly, but the weatherman promises a warming trend for southern California. In previous blog reports, I'm sure I've mentioned The Strand, a beautiful boardwalk that runs for miles and miles along the ocean front. This morning Sharon and I set off for a 2.5 mile walk along The Strand from Hermosa to Manhattan Beach. Either the weirdos were all off today, or I'm getting accustomed to the unusual people, because the crowd seemed fairly tame today. We arrived in Manhattan Beach in time for lunch at Simmzy's Pub followed by exploring some of the cute boutiques in the area. The winds have cleared the air and for the first time, we could see Catalina Island. We were thinking of a trip to Catalina, but the ferry requires muzzles for dogs and Scruffy flat out refused. Frankly, I think the muzzles would be better served on some of the folks out here. But that's a topic for another day.

Sharon and I walked along the beach checking out the volley ball games and surfers. Sharon wants to learn to surf if she doesn't have to get in the water. Haven't figured out how we'll accomplish that.
By the time we made it back to the condo, we had covered 6 miles of beautiful beach. While walking up the beach toward the condo, I noticed the smoke stacks from the nuclear power plant located a block from the condo.

You know, the photographer who handled the marketing for the condo didn't include this photo in the brochure, either. My condo is the one shown right below the smoke stacks in the center.

We had another amazing sunset tonight. Each evening, the neighbors gather for sunset and sipping cocktails. It's quiet the event and a great time to meet the new neighbors from Fort Meyers, Florida in the condo downstairs. Nice people.
